Sue Rossiter became Chief Executive of the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) in 2005.

Since joining NFER her emphasis has been on ensuring that NFER’s research makes a real difference to learners of all ages, especially to the lives of children and young people. Sue has spearheaded NFER’s portfolio of research supporting children's services and the development of e-assessment products for schools. Current priorities include broadening NFER’s activities into new areas, including further education, skills and young offenders.

Prior experience and professional background

Sue has had a wide range of experience both within and outside the education service. Before joining NFER, she was Norfolk's Deputy Director of Education, with lead roles in strategic and resource management and in school improvement. Her earlier roles included: a short spell at HM Treasury where she worked on improving ways of forecasting public expenditure; work in the private sector, undertaking consultancy on information systems and IT; and in the Research and Intelligence Units of South Yorkshire and then Oxfordshire County Councils, which included work on value for money studies, pupil forecasting, and development of corporate planning processes.

Sue has a degree in mathematics from St Anne's College, Oxford, and an MSc in Operational Research from Sussex University.
